Maintenance and care of a resin top

How to care for resin tops? In this article we will provide you with all the advice and tips you need for the maintenance and care of a resin countertop.

Here is everything you need to know on the subject!

Cleaning and maintenance of resin tops

If you have decided to furnish your bathroom with a brand new wash basin or vanity top made of a resin-based material, you will need to know how best to take care of these surfaces, preserving the natural beauty and shine of resin elements over time.

With regard to the various resin-based materials with which it is possible to create bathroom surfaces, contemporary furnishings today offer a wide variety of solutions, with different characteristics and yields, in order to respond appropriately to every requirement and specific need.

Compared to classic ceramics, each resin-based material is characterised by a different composition: hence the need to act differently when it comes to cleaning and routine maintenance. Although they resemble each other, the various resin-based materials available on the market today have specific characteristics that make them in some ways unique products (many of them have their own name, patented by the manufacturing company). In order to take the best possible care of the material that makes up the surfaces of your bathroom, it is therefore necessary to know its composition and how it should be treated. Basically, it will be important to know exactly what the materials used to cover our bathroom are made of.

In general terms, the most important piece of advice we would like to give you when caring for a resin bathroom wall covering is to follow with the utmost care the instructions and indications provided by the manufacturer for the cleaning and maintenance of the material. In fact, it sometimes happens that over time we forget the name of the resin-based product used to cover the surfaces of our bathroom. Sometimes the resin materials used for coverings in a house are different and confusion tends to arise. This happens above all among ordinary people who are not experts in the furniture sector.

If you keep the information on the material drawn up and given to you by the manufacturer, it will always be possible to examine it and, if necessary, contact the company for further information and details.

Regardless of the manufacturer's instructions, the main rule to be followed when cleaning and maintaining a resin surface is to avoid the use of aggressive products. The products for cleaning a resin surface which should absolutely be avoided are:

  • acetone (a product which is not tolerated by practically all resin coatings)
  • abrasive sponges (unless expressly recommended by the manufacturer).

The following paragraphs provide specific instructions for the maintenance and cleaning of a resin top, with reference to the specific material used.

Maintenance and cleaning of an Aquatek and Corian worktop

Aquatek and Corian are materials with an almost identical composition: the raw materials used for their production are in fact the same. The raw materials used for their production are the same: they are particularly resistant acrylic resins, easily washable and restorable in case of damage due to scratches or knocks. Here are the main instructions for cleaning this type of surface.

For daily cleaning of an Aquatek or Corian surface, you can use a cotton or microfibre cloth soaked in neutral detergent and warm water. For special cleaning and renewal of the surface, you can use a solution of one quarter water and three quarters bleach. Spread the solution on the surface with a sponge and leave it to act for a few minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

Maintenance and cleaning of a Mineralsolid countertop

Mineralsolid is a type of material made from polyester resins based on recycled pet. The material is then coated externally with opaque gelcoat, a sort of resin-based finish, which makes the surface waterproof, giving it a special aesthetic effect.

For daily cleaning of this surface you can use a micro-fibre cloth or, even better, a cotton cloth soaked in a solution of water and neutral detergent. For extraordinary cleaning and maintenance, you can spread a creamy detergent on the surface with the help of a slightly abrasive sponge. After leaving the detergent to act for a few minutes, you can rinse thoroughly.

Maintenance and cleaning of a Cristalplant top

Cristalplant is a material composed of mineral fillers of high purity aluminium trihydrates bonded with vegetable resins (corn/corn). For routine cleaning of these surfaces, you can use a micro-fibre or cotton cloth soaked in a solution of neutral detergent and warm water.

For extraordinary cleaning and renewal of the surface you can use a creamy detergent applied with a slightly abrasive sponge. Leave it on and rinse thoroughly.

Maintenance and cleaning of a Mineralux worktop

Mineralux is a type of material composed of polyester resins and coated on the outside with glossy gelcoat.

Ordinary cleaning of this surface can be carried out with a cotton or micro-fibre sponge and a solution of warm water and neutral detergent.

Extraordinary maintenance and cleaning of the surface should be carried out with a solution of one quarter water and three quarters bleach, distributed with a normal non-abrasive sponge. The solution should act for a few minutes and then be thoroughly rinsed.

Maintenance and cleaning of a Mineralmarble worktop

Mineralmarmo is a material composed of 75% natural mineral fillers (calcium carbonates and aluminium trihydrates) and 25% polyester resins. This material also has a gelcoat coating.

Ordinary cleaning of a Mineralmarmo surface can be carried out using a non-abrasive sponge soaked in neutral detergent and warm water. Extraordinary maintenance and cleaning and the repair of scratches can only be carried out using the appropriate reviving kit.
