Which model to choose?
When furnishing the dining room we are faced with the need to choose the shape of the table: among the most common solutions there are 2 types of tables for the living room: round tables and rectangular tables, classic models for the furnishing of the dining room.
Obviously the choice must be made taking into account the size of the room where the table is to be placed, the number of seats available and also the furnishing (modern or classic) of the room. Certainly the round table has a special charm, given by its graceful shape, but it also requires adequate space: in fact, the size of a round table, with the same number of seats, is definitely more important than that of a rectangular table.
Regardless of the chosen shape, there is also a wild card solution, which is represented by extendable tables. Extendable round or oval tables are available, such as the Nantes table with a steel base, which allow you to modulate the size, keeping them closed when there are a limited number of diners and opening them when you need more space. An extendable round table allows you to enjoy the soft style of the round table without the need to permanently occupy a large portion of the available space.
The round dining room table can be considered the symbol of conviviality, of lunches and dinners spent in company. In fact, the round table puts all the diners in a position of proximity, favouring conversation, because everyone has the other people sitting at the table in their field of vision. In addition, round tables have a single central leg, which improves the comfort of those sitting around the table.
The most common disadvantage of the round table is its bulkiness, which is greater than that of a rectangular or square table, and the fact that it is not possible to lean the round table against a wall, when not all the seats at the table are needed, to gain space.
There is a "compromise" solution for those who do not want to renounce the softness of curved shapes and at the same time are looking for maximum practicality: the oval table. The oval table does not have any edges and is therefore stylistically very close to the round table, but at the same time it also fits well in rectangular rooms. All this with the practicality of offering a good number of places at the table, more than those of the round table.
Obviously there are pros and cons to an oval table, and among these is the fact that the space available to diners is reduced compared to that available at rectangular and round tables, especially for those diners who are at the ends of the table.
With regard to the rectangular table, this choice is often dictated by the practicality of this type of model. First of all, we must consider that the rectangular table is able to accommodate a large number of diners and a large availability of different sizes that can adapt to different needs and available space. If there is a further need for space, you can opt for an extendable model, such as the Koumac stainless steel table, which is able to reach a length of 240 centimetres.
The rectangular shape allows these tables to adapt to different environments, both small and large.
In smaller rooms, a rectangular table can be placed against a wall, thus recovering precious space, to be moved when it is used. In addition, the rectangular table is also very "flexible" in terms of furnishing style: in fact, it is a type of table that can best adapt to very different styles, both in the dining room and in the kitchen.
However, the rectangular table also has disadvantages: in particular the presence of four legs can cause problems for the comfort of diners, especially those who are right next to one of the legs. The rectangular table is not the most suitable for conviviality, especially for larger models: at this type of table, the guests may be far apart, so that they cannot converse easily.
We have seen that opinions on the choice of a round table can be very different, depending on the needs and different situations.
As far as the measurements of a round table are concerned, we can use a simple mathematical operation: we must start from the fact that each diner must have a minimum space of 60 centimetres to be able to sit comfortably at the table and eat comfortably (although 80 centimetres could be an even better choice). So we have to multiply 60 centimetres by the number of diners we plan to have at the table and divide the resulting sum by 3.14. If we want a round table for 4 people, we should therefore choose a table with a diameter of at least 77 centimetres.
We can give some practical examples: so a round table for 6 people must have a diameter of at least 115 centimetres, while if we need a round table that can seat 12 people we must choose one with a diameter of at least 230 centimetres.
Definitely important spaces: for this reason, when considering the purchase of a round table for the dining room, it is necessary to consider with the utmost attention the space available, so as not to risk buying a table that in the end turns out to be too bulky and that makes it difficult to use the environment in which it is placed.
