Oled TV and new digital terrestrial

Oled TVs represent the latest frontier in video technology for the new digital terrestrial television. In this article we will give you all the information about this new technology, giving you some pointers on how to integrate an Oled TV into your home design.

Here's all you need to know about the subject

Oled TV, meaning

Oled stands for "Organic Light Emitting Diode", more simply organic EL - organic electroluminescent diode. This latest generation screen is in fact an LED light emitting diode. The screen of these modern televisions is made up of thousands of LEDs, placed next to each other and capable of switching on and off automatically.

With the help of LEDs, these screens are able to reproduce particularly complex and articulated images at high resolution, taking into account every small variation in contrast. These screens are able to react extremely quickly, generating super-detailed images capable of reproducing the smallest details of each subject.

Modern Oled TVs are capable of reproducing particularly bright and brilliant images, characterised by extremely vivid and vibrant colours. One of the main features that distinguishes this video technology is the greater depth of dark tones, particularly bright contrasts and, last but not least, the fact that the screens are extremely thin and much lighter than all the TVs available on the market today.

The market is now able to offer many models of Oled TVs at very attractive prices.

Furnishing your home with an Oled TV

Oled TVs are extremely thin devices, capable of offering the thickness of a picture and the sensation that your space is focused directly on the screen. This innovative TV model has the ability to give great personality to the living room, filling it with its presence.

All Oled TVs available on the market today are able to guarantee excellent image quality. These screens are also particularly attractive from an aesthetic point of view, thanks to their slim, minimalist and futuristic lines. It is possible to install these screens on any type of wall: obviously an Oled TV can be used as a digital smart TV on which to use Apps and entertainment images (for example it is possible to load a digital aquarium that looks really real!).

In a modern and dynamic living room, furnished in a futuristic and futuristic style, the Oled TV is that element that certainly cannot be missing. Thanks to this technology, with the right tools and accessories your living room can be transformed into a real private cinema.

Obviously this type of device will adapt more easily to the furnishing context of a minimalist, sober and in some ways almost aseptic environment. An environment characterised by light tones is probably the best context in which to set up an Oled TV. With an Oled screen, especially if particularly large, many components of your furniture could become superfluous, reducing the furniture to a minimum.

You must also consider the fact that the screen will occupy most of the wall and therefore to furnish your spaces you will no longer need a large number of paintings, shelves or furniture, which would get in the way of the Oled screen.

The only piece of furniture that will have to be present in your living room will be the support for the TV console. As an alternative to this you can decide to place a simple shelf in the same colour as your wall, or alternatively a dark one, to better highlight the contrast.

In the furnishing of a contemporary home, an Oled TV can today represent the perfect substitute for pictorial art.

New Digital Terrestrial 2021: how to understand if we need to change TV set

With the advent of the new digital terrestrial television, if we have not yet purchased an Oled TV, the question we need to ask ourselves is whether our TVs are compatible with the new digital technology.

As of September 2021, many TVs in Italian homes will no longer be able to reproduce images and recognise the new digital TV signal. At the end of next summer, the standard TV signal will change: only compatible devices will be able to continue to operate.

In order to understand whether your TV set will be able to receive the new TV signal, you can carry out a quick test, which will help you to understand whether your set will be able to receive the new signal.

To carry out the test, you will have to tune in to the Mediaset test channel (channel 200) or alternatively the Rai test channel (channel 100). If you see a static screen with the words "HEVC Test Main10", you can rest assured that your TV set will be able to receive the new TV signal.

Your TV set will be able to receive the new TV signal even after the new digital switchover is completed in the year 2022.

If, on the other hand, you do not see any text on channels 100 or 200, but simply a black screen, or if your television does not even recognise the channels, then your television is probably not digitally enabled.

If you don't see any text on the test channels, you should try one more thing before you decide to buy a new TV set: re-tune the channels on your TV set and then try channel 100 or channel 200 again:

  • HECV Main10 appears on channel 100 or 200. In this case your 8 or 10 bit device will be enabled to receive the new digital signal.
  • Channels 100 or 200 will still not tune in: this condition may depend on many factors. In the worst case your device may not be enabled to receive new digital signals.
  • Channels 100 and 200 will be displayed but will be occupied by other broadcasters. In this case you should try to move the station occupying the channels to a different number. You can do this with the channel setting option and then re-tune.
  • Channels 100 and 200 will be received but the screen will still be black. In the latter case you can be 100% sure that your device will not be able to receive the new standard signal. However, it should be pointed out that it is not yet certain that the 10-bit format will be used after July 2022. HECV allows the image to be encoded in different ways. If the 8-bit format is adopted, many devices manufactured and purchased between 2016 and 2018 that are not currently able to display the writing on channels 100 and 200 may still be able to receive the new standard digital signal.
