LC2 armchair: the archetype of the modern armchair

Armchair LC2 is a timeless piece of furniture, a timeless design icon, always able to contribute to the creation of a wow effect furniture in any home.

Cassina LC2 armchair represents a unique model that has made design history, becoming over the years a world famous symbol. Despite its 92 years of age, this armchair seems to have come out of a contemporary project: the LC2 armchair was exhibited in 1929 at the Salon d'Automne in Paris, immediately becoming the archetype of the modern furnishing concept, considered by the designers of the time as an example of domestic equipment.

LC2 armchair: characteristics and dimensions

Cassina LC2 armchair is characterized by a minimalist style expressed in geometric lines that make this model suitable to be inserted in furnishing contexts characterized by multiple styles. Thanks to the insertion inside an LC2 armchair environment you can give your spaces a touch of elegance and refinement, never excessive.

Thanks to its revolutionary structure this armchair has become a design classic since the time of its exhibition. The metal frame is exposed and placed outside the cushions: the latter, instead of acting only as padding, become the central component of the armchair.

The great balance between form and function represents a concept born from a highly in-depth study of body posture. The study was also based on the use of the "Modulor" a particular system based on the measurements of the human body and the mathematical language of proportions.

The history of the LC2 Le Corbusier armchair

LC2 armchair was designed and conceived by architect Le Corbusier in 1928, in collaboration with Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand. At the time of its design and exhibition, the model was called "Fauteuil Grand Confort, petit modèle", or "Gran Conforto armchair, small model".

The architect Le Corbusier and his collaborators, together with the armchair, designed a real collection, consisting of a sofa and a pouf. The LC2 collection was put on sale in 1930 by the Thonet company.

The original design of the LC2 armchair had a structure in polished chrome-plated steel or painted in the many colours grey, green, burgundy, basalt, light blue, polished ochre and matt black.

Only the matt black model was put on the market, with the cushions finished in white or black leather: the reason for this choice was dictated by the intent to enhance the linearity of the model and the purity and simplicity of its structure, by means of monochrome.

In 1964 Cassina acquired the rights to some of the first models and in 2010 it decided to propose a new collection revisited in multiple colours, which was based on an original design conceived by the authors made available by the Le Corbusier Foundation. Over the years there have been many revisitations and imitations of the armchair made by Le Corbusier.

The LC2 armchair is a furnishing element that cannot be missed today in the warehouse of a professional home stager.
